Mets Fire GM Over D*ck Pics
For those following the MLB Hot Stove this offseason, the Mets have undoubtedly been one of the big winners. Signing guys like James McCann and Jose Martinez and of course trading for Francisco Lindor and Carlos "Cookie" Carrasco.
Unfortunately, one move hasn't gone right and that's the signing of General Manager Jared Porter, who joined the team on December 13th, hired away from his Assistant GM role in Arizona. Porter, back as member of the Cubs organization in 2016, repeatedly harassed a foreign female reporter via text.
The text relationship started casual, then he began complimenting her appearance, sent her selfies asking "You like?" and invited her to meet in various locations. She ignored the creep and he kept firing messages, sending 60 texts that went unanswered, before forwarding the dick pic. The reporter alerted Cub officials, and was told he would apologize and that she could pursue legal action.
Porter apologized to the reporter back in 2016, but when he was hired as GM of the Mets, she decided to come forward and expose him. To the Mets credit, they've already fired Porter, with Mets owner Steve Cohen vowing to keep the integrity of the team.
The female reporter is not expected to pursue any legal action. She's gone back to her country and is no longer involved in journalism. She didn't blame this event on her leaving the male-dominated industry, but I'm sure it had some effect on her.
